It is amazing how interconnected we all are through a website - invested in each other’s lives at least to the extent of clicking the “heart” next to a text post. In our moments of weakness and hesitancy, it is strangely reassuring to know that there is a kindred soul out there, even if it is someone we will never physically know.

I sometimes wonder if people experience an unbearable ennui in my presence. The fact of the matter is, I find the most mundane things interesting and revel in the comfort of routine. I feel as though all my friends want to explore every inch of the world as I scroll through their pictures and soak up different stories and cultures as if words were enough for osmosis, but this does not bother me....

In the thirteenth century, King Frederick II of Germany wanted to know if humans would speak innately if they were not taught a particular language. To conduct his experiment, he assigned 50 infants to be taken care of by nurses who fed and bathed them but were not allowed to speak or hold them. The result was shocking: all of the infants died. Perhaps it is not an exaggeration to say that without...

Sometimes, the details aren’t as important as they seem. As we get caught up in the game of life, details can overwhelm us. The specifics take over our mind, frying neurons and mocking a life of simplicity. We become so transfixed with the details of life that we forget to remember why we first stepped across the starting line. Shall I consider your words and expressions useless because...

The current state of our society with the rise of social media is incredible: a constant proclamation of the self. Even on Tumblr, we look for an “about” page when we look at a blog for the first time; often, the writing is lengthy and incredibly detailed. Society is now trained to believe that not only should we share our thoughts with the world, but that we are important and every...

beautiful
adjective: very pleasing or satisfying.  I cannot deny the denotation, but the dictionary cannot recognize the radiance of the creases in your hands, the loose hair tucked behind your ear, each crevice opening onto another that is luminous, the ever-present smirk upon your face that suggests life is but a game, And by acknowledging the miniaturization, beauty on every scale, you have already...

People with kind hearts make me aware of my own blatant personality cracks, as if they are holding up a mirror to me and allowing me to see the grime of my misconceptions and quick judgments. Despite this, I can’t help but want them surrounding me always so I can be in a state of constant evaluation as I work to better myself. We are all inherently flawed as humans, but it is about finding...

With presence of a fire, there is torrential rain; your absence showering upon any glimmer of warmth. Drip drip drip against the window pane, but all I can hear is Not You, Not You, Not You. Every color turns to grey. Even the fire ignited in my heart turns to smoke, causing a new storm within my lungs: a terrible coughing fit I cannot shake. Playing with fire.
